Rated 3/5 based on 3 customer reviews.
It needs a little more instruction up front. I could not understand the battleship function during my first few loosing games, nor the construction.
Lots of fun.
Nice game, could use some polish, limited duration of appeal

Good core gameplay, nothing too complex, but complex enough. Like other reviewers, some further explaination would be helpful, especially an explaination of the differences of nations. (for instance, the germans' tanks roll 2-8 and other nations' tanks roll 2-7) No random map generator, so once you've played through the maps included, that's it. They made the campaign modes challenging enough, so well worth the price if you're into this kind of thing.
Dramatic Improvement Needed to Tutorial!
I had really high hopes for European War II because I really enjoy playing Risk, and based on what I read in some of the reviews, this game is supposed to be an enhanced version of Risk. However, after completing the very short "Tutorial," which is the only in-app help/instruction, I do not have a good understand of how the game is played. I have received an above average formal education with a pretty decent amount of common/street sense thrown in for good measure, and I typically am able to figure out how to play a game or utilize an app without the need for much in the way of tutorials or help files. This game, however, is somewhat more involved than many and given the very poorly written tutorial, I am left with nothing but frustration.
The tutorial in this game consists of 16 sentences (many of them incomplete with numerous grammatical errors) spread across ten screens. Though the developer strives to explain certain aspects of the game, the tutorial is so poorly written and woefully incomplete that I believe most users will become frustrated trying to figure out how the game is played. The following two sentences are excerpted from the eighth of ten tutorial screens in European War II. Other than a graphic, the following is the only information present on this particular tutorial screen. "The highest dice point will be +1 when the attacker possesses General Card or the defender possess Marshal Card. If the defender is equipped with Fortress Card, all dice point will be +1."
Taken out of context, it may not be immediately obvious that there is a problem with the information on this tutorial screen. However, there are major problems because nowhere are any of the terms explained. No place within any part of the tutorial will you find an explanation of a "General Card," a "Marshal Card," or a "Fortress Card." In fact, the aforementioned tutorial screen is the only place the user will see those terms. Similarly, there is no explanation anywhere of a "dice point" or what the significance of "+1" might be. I have tried a couple of times to figure out the game by playing it, but so far, I have not gotten very far. In a couple of the tutorial screens there are references to "dice points," though so far, I have not seen any dice.
In addition to the fact there is VERY little information regarding how the game is to be played, there is also no information to describe any of the buttons on the main menu. There appear to be at least a couple of different game modes, "Conquest" and "Campaigns," neither of which are described or explained anywhere, nor is there any information that would describe the options, difficulty levels, etc. Though the graphics look great and, based on other reviews, this is probably a good game, unless you have identified a different source of information regarding how to play, which is something I have not yet tried to do, you probably should not expect to begin playing right away if you decide to purchase the app.
I believe the first thing the developer needs to do before updating or refining any other aspect of this app, is to hire a person with fluent English skills, a solid understanding of the game itself (e.g., terms, strategy, etc.,) and competent writing and typing skills. Besides improving the readability of the information available in the tutorial, the developer needs to dramatically augment the content. I really hate to think I wasted money on this game, but unless a much higher quality tutorial or help manual is written, I fear it will be awhile before I come back to European War II and take the time that will be needed to try to figure everything out.
When users purchase a new game, or any app for that matter, they should be able to spend time exploring and enjoying it. Users should not be faced with difficulties and frustration caused by the developer's inability to provide adequate and easily understood documentation (tutorials, help files, etc.) I sincerely hope the developer takes to heart this critique--as well as the various other similar critiques found in other reviews. I believe this is probably a great game, but I, and others, cannot enjoy it if we cannot understand how to play it. If the game is updated to include a significantly improved tutorial and I am able to enjoy the game as much as I enjoy Risk--currently my favorite game--I will gladly revise my rating.
